The Internet changes pretty fast, and if you want to have a popular blog, you must keep up with it. What if you get an awesome idea for a new post while at dinner?

What if an important news breaks while you are at a birthday party? The bottom line is: you should be able to work on your blog all day long, even if you are not sitting in front of your computer.

How do you do that? With an iPhone! The 20 apps below will help you blog on the go, find ideas and images for your posts, track your analytics, promote your posts on social media and so on. Enjoy!

1. WordPress

If you are reading this blog I am guessing you use WordPress, right? The WordPress app for iPhone gives you everything you need to make a quick post, edit previous posts, edit pages, reply to comments and the like. In other words, it lets you manage your blog even while you’re commuting on a train or taking a break from driving on a highway. Just recently, the app was updated to version 8, bringing one essential feature suited for mobile bloggers: the ability to post photos that you’ve taken using your iPhone’s camera. Perfect!

2. Evernote

Literature on being a successful blogger will always tell you to be organized with your thoughts and to keep notes for your ideas. With Evernote, which is a very popular getting-things-done application, you can do that quite efficiently with your iPhone. You’ll find it’s an awesome tool for organizing your digital life.

3. TypePad

Okay, so your blog is not on WordPress? Then it must be using TypePad. This app lets you do things that you can normally do on your blog using your computer—write new posts, post photos to your blog, and alert your friends when you’ve published a new post, You know what’s great? The TypePad app integrates with the desktop client, too.

4. PayPal

PayPal is a must-have for bloggers and online entrepreneurs. When you want to check your balance, withdraw your hard-earned money, or pay-off a contracting service, you can do so now through the PayPal iPhone app. I’ve used this app many times before, and it’s secure, fast, and reliable.

5. Instapaper

Instapaper is an useful app to keep track of interesting posts and pages you found online. I mean, being a blogger, I’m sure you do a lot of web surfing using your iPhone. Since you’re on the move, though, you won’t have time to finish reading all those articles, so using this app becomes quite handy.

6. Twitter

Find me a blogger who doesn’t have a Twitter account and I will quickly say that the person is not a true-blue blogger. If PayPal is the official financial service of bloggers, Twitter is the official microblogging service. In fact, it’s not a microblogging service anymore. It has become an official communication medium for online geeks. There are many Twitter apps for iPhone, but why bother with third-party apps if there is this official one?

7. Analytics App

Once you start using Google Analytics it’s easy to get addicted. If you already are, then you’ll certainly want to install the official Google Analytics iPhone app. This should also save you from boredom in those situations you have nothing else to do.

8. iEarn

Useful if you’re running Google AdSense on your blog, this iPhone app will let you check your earnings and statistics with all the AdSense aggregate data (including revenues for today, revenues for yesterday, last seven days, this month, and last month). The app also gives you statistics on your AdSense impressions, clicks, eCPM, and CTR.

9. Byline

A useful tool for getting the latest news from your favorite sites and blogs, which you can use as a reference for blog posts, new ideas and outbound links. What’s good about this app is that it syncs with your Google Reader account and delivers the latest and most updated news feeds to your iPhone.

10. Blogpress

If you need to manage several blogs hosted on several blogging platforms, you definitely need this app. It supports Blogger, WordPress, TypaPad, and others. It also integrates well with social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, and Picasa. The app lets you do most of the things that you will normally do while log-in to your blog using your computer. One thing that you will most likely appreciate from this app is that you can cross-publish a post to different blogs on different platforms.

11. CoverItLive

Sooner or later in your blogging career you’ll be prompted to live blog a certain event. If you don’t feel like bringing your laptop to said event, you can still cover it using your iPhone. Get this app and you’ll be able to launch and run live events, publish live commentary, publish photos, audio and video, email event links, and more.

12. ShoZu

This app is best described as a social media hub. That is because will let you connect with more than 50 social networking. For bloggers like us, this app also supports WordPress, Blogger and TypePad. It lets you upload photos and videos to multiple sites with one click, update status and tweets, and geotag photos.

13. Photoshop Express

We all need to edit photos and images once in a while, so Photoshop’s app for the iPhone comes in handy. It has several nifty features that we could otherwise enjoy only on our computer. This app gives you the ability to perform several photo editing functions to your images or photos—from simple cropping to filtering and applying special effects. It’s free as well.

14. Air Sharing

Let’s say you’re drafting a post while on your way home. When you finally arrive home, what’s the best and fastest way to transfer your draft to your Mac or PC to fine-tune the post some more? Well, this app of course. Air Sharing lets you mount your iPhone as a Wi-Fi device on your computer. Once mounted, you can drag and drop files from your iPhone to your computers and open them using the appropriate app.

15. Posterous

This app made it to the list because of its seamless autoposting feature that works with most blogging platforms. It’s useful to integrate different blogs, Twitter streams, and to make sure that your posts are going directly to all your online channels.

16. Tumblr

Tumblr is also known as the “other” microblogging service, which thankfully didn’t follow Twitter’s path and remained true to what it was created for. If you have a Tumblr account and you want to regularly update it with text, image, video or link posts, this app should be sitting on your iPhone’s app screen. It’s completely free.

17. WriteRoom

This app (which is the iPhone version of a popular desktop software) has one goal: to give you a distraction free writing environment. No fancy menus, options, formatting features and the like. Just plain and straight-out writing with an even more useful full-screen writing feature.

18. Photobucket

Not only is this app is useful for posting photos you’ve taken using your iPhone, but it also allows you to search for images and photos from the Photobucket website. And if you find something that you can use for a blog post, you can save the photo or image and then use it right after. It’s great for sourcing images.

19. iBlogger

The first thing you’ll notice when checking out this app from the App Store is the relatively expensive price (i.e., $10). However, this app has several nice features that make it worthy of its price. For example, it makes adding links to posts easier and it allows the integration with Google Maps and other location based services (using the iPhone’s GPS).

20. Facebook

We couldn’t leave the Facebook app for the iPhone out of the list, right? After all Facebook and blogging go hand in hand. With this app you can easily share links to your recent posts, write new updates for your followers and readers and so on.

Do you use these apps? What others can you share?

WordPress blogs are split almost 50-50 between the two, with 16 million blogs hosted on WordPress.com, while 16.7 million are self-hosted WordPress.org installations.

Mozilla

Employees: 250

Users: All Firefox users. The latest official version of Firefox, 3.6, has so far been downloaded almost 400 million times.

Mozilla is the company/organization behind Firefox, which is one of those open source projects that truly benefit from its surrounding community. As much as 40% of the work on Firefox is done by volunteers.

Firefox is of course far from the only project at Mozilla. There’s also the email client Thunderbird, to name one example. Firefox, though, is by far the project with the most users. Firefox has roughly 30% of the web browser market.

Tumblr

Employees: 18

Users: 12 million blogs on Tumblr

Tumblr was one of the big successes of 2010, and the rapidly growing blogging service is now hosting 12 million blogs. They’re on a hiring spree to catch up with their growing user base and the strains all that traffic has put on their infrastructure (they’ve had some wobbly times lately).

Twitter

Employees: 300

Users: 175 million

Twitter has boosted its ranks significantly in the last couple of years to keep up with its explosive growth, but they still only have a staff of 300. Not that much considering the amount of users the service has.

Opera Software

Employees: 757

Users: 150 million users across all versions of the Opera web browser (desktop, mobile and other devices).

Opera is only the fifth-most-popular web browser (after IE, Firefox, Chrome and Safari) on the desktop. However, the majority of Opera’s user base is due to Opera Mini, which is very common on mobile phones across the world. Opera is based in Norway, so we’re proud to call them neighbors (Pingdom is based in Sweden).

Canonical

Employees: 350+

Users: Estimated to at least 12 million Ubuntu Linux users.

Canonical is the company behind Ubuntu, the most popular Linux distribution on the desktop, and second-most-popular on servers. It’s also the most popular for use in cloud computing (virtual servers on the Internet, we presume, we’re quoting Canonical).

Wikimedia

Employees: 57

Users: Wikipedia has more than 408 million monthly visitors.

Wikimedia Foundation is the organization that operates Wikipedia and several other similar wiki projects. Wikipedia’s content has famously been created by hundreds of thousands of people through the years. There are currently more than 100,000 volunteers who write and edit Wikipedia (and its much smaller sister projects).

Skype

Employees: 500

Users: 560+ million (and that was a year ago, the number should be higher now)

Skype, letting you make voice calls (plus chat and video conferencing) over the Internet, has been around since 2003. Although it’s a bit like comparing apples and oranges, the numbers we have seen indicate that Skype is roughly as big as Facebook in terms of users.

Craigslist

Employees: 30

Users: More than 50 million in the United States each month.

Craigslist, offering free classified advertisements online, has been around since 1996 (it began life as a mailing list in 1995). In other words, it’s a real web veteran, and it’s probably quite a surprise to most to see that they have so few employees. And note that the number of users we mentioned here is just for the United States. Craigslist is also available in other countries.

Final words

We almost included Facebook in this article, but we didn’t really think they were small enough anymore (Facebook has more than 2000 employees). We would have also loved to include ourselves, but Pingdom isn’t quite there yet…

Can you imagine a traditional, “offline” company managing these kinds of user numbers with a moderate number of employees? Probably not, right? These numbers only really become possible in the economy that the Internet and the World Wide Web has given us. It’s a true gift to all those tech-savvy entrepreneurs out there. You can accomplish great things with just a small team.

Data sources: Aside from the articles we’ve linked to, most of these companies have the number of employees (and sometimes users) readily available on their website. Where possible, we used those sources to get the most up-to-date information.

Bing is a development of Live and MSN search, which is now more stylish than it’s counterpart and organises search results in a better way. Bing is Microsoft’s avenue to get into the dominated search market and with the recently announcement of Apple iPhones containing the Bing search engine…they are on their way.

The webmaster center allows webmasters to add their websites to the index crawler. It also offers the ability to troubleshoot the site and organise how Bing views your site.

The site is split up into:

Summary – Provides indexing and crawling information as well at your top 5 page scores.

Profile- gives you the option to enter in your website’s sitemap to help Bing crawl and index your website.

Crawl Issues – If for some reason you have a crawl issue, you can use the crawl issues tool to see where the problem might have occurred while crawling and indexing your website.

Backlinks – Provides a list of URLs that link back to your site.

Outbound Links – Provides you with a list of URLs leading to other websites on your site.

Keywords – Use the keywords tool to evaluate how your website performs against search specific keywords or terms.

Sitemaps – Allows you to provide your sitemap to Webmaster Center to help index your site (already included in the Profile tool)

How to Signup to Webmaster

Go to http://www.bing.com/webmaster and Sign-in with your Windows Live ID.

Ping your Sitemap

Without having to sign in you can also Ping your sitemap, using something like this:

http://cn.bing.com/webmaster/ping.aspx?siteMap=[your sitemap web address]

Bing Website Submission

Also it’s worthwhile to mention how to submit your site to Bing. It’s a case of entering your url at:

www.bing.com/webmaster/SubmitSitePage.aspx

Conclusion

I found the webmaster section easier to use and more friendly to the eye than compared to the complex nature of Google and Yahoo’s tools. It doesn’t seem like much at first, but when you click on your site’s link you’ll see more detailed features. I noticed the 404 search section wasn’t working as well as other search engine tools and there was less pages indexed. However, if it helps my site to get on Bing, I don’t mind at all!

However, I’ve found out that SEO’s recommend NOT to use the “Add URL” form with Google.

The location is at:

http://www.google.com/addurl.html.

SEO’s believe that using that form to let Google know about your site will actually hurt your PR and, at the same time, make Google rank you lower. In other words, you absolutely never want to use that form, or the similar form on any other search engine, to promote your website.

By extension, that also means that you absolutely never use any automated “website submission software,” either. Those are the things that claim they’ll submit you to some incredible number of search engines with a single click.

Adding to Google

My experience is that getting backlinks to your site from already Google indexed sites is enough. Also by placing Adsense on your pages, you’ll be getting Google spiders and finally submitting your sitemap to Google Webmasters will also allow Google spiders to crawl your pages.

My site still isn’t indexed?

One thing which I’m doing is using Google Webmaster to contact Google about a domain. I purchased a site which should of been listed by now so was perhaps banned because of the previous site owner (duplicate content, bad link neighbourhood or bad practices).

Businesses are investing significant financial and human resources into building their Facebook presence and engaging with fans.

But while Facebook is undoubtedly an important marketing channel, many businesses are now grappling with how they can turn it into an effective sales channel too.

One solution is to enable businesses to buy your products directly from your Facebook page.

According to Compete.com, 68% of people become fans of retail pages to keep up to date on sales and promotions, so it’s a logical step to allow them to purchase products on the page too.

Indeed some businesses are seeing as much as 20% of overall online sales coming via their Facebook stores and higher cart values as well.

There is a compelling argument for businesses to consider a Facebook social commerce strategy. And
we are starting to see that play out as more and more businesses are recognising that they can make
Facebook pay by adding a Facebook shopping cart app to their business page.

The apps add a ‘shop’ tab to your business page and the best take just minutes to add and don’t require you to register with a website or your customers to accept the application when they shop in your store.

The popularity of Facebook is continuing to rise, having recently overtaken Google as the most visited
website. In fact, a typical user spends more than 14 minutes per day on Facebook. However shopping on Facebook is still new, so it is important not only to make commerce a social part of the interaction with your fans, but to use the wall as your shop window and actively promote your products, promotions and indeed the shop tab itself.

While some may expect that it is businesses with large fan bases that are having all the success, small
businesses of all types and sizes are doing really well too. A good example is Silver Kandi, a jewelry store based in Australia. And while they have just over 800 fans, they regularly receive several orders a day through their Facebook shop.

It’s also amazing to see the different types of products that businesses are selling via their Facebook shopping cart app. You will find shops selling specialty BBQ sauces, charity donations, tickets for gigs, merchandise, shoes and baby products. One store, Chile Monster sells thousands of dollars a month of chiles!

Social commerce is set to be a key revenue driver for businesses selling online over the coming year. According to Mike Murphy, Vice President of Global Sales for Facebook, “There’s a lot of page-building happening with the functionality to allow shopping inside Facebook.”

And Christine Baldwell of leading UK technology analysis firm, Ovum said in a recent interview, “It definitely shouldn’t be regarded as a fad… social commerce offers good sales potential for 2011 and will be the big story in retail technology.”

As more and more businesses allow the social networking space to become a social commerce location, it’s only natural that small business as well as big will benefit hugely. But only time will tell, so watch this space as they say.

I know I mention it a lot, but I’m a huge advocate for having a great custom blog / web site design. With that said, I am always finding new designers to work on web design, but it is always tough to find a quality designer that can provide both high quality design and PSD to HTML cutting as well.

If it isn’t the quality you are having an issue with, it might just be the extra cost. You do have an alternative though, there are many sites that specialize in just PSD to HTML services, where they will cut up your design and have it ready for you within a day, or even hours.

Whether you are looking to have a full site designed, or even just a landing page, this list of html cutting sites should be a very useful resource to come back to.

The selection of services below include companies that offer PSD to HTML/XHTML/CSS coding. These sites also have other services, such as search engine optimization, easy integration to WordPress, Blogger, and Joomla, and others.

Here are seven of the top PSD to HTML sites that you can check out. Necessary information (price, benefits, services) have been included. I’ve personally used W3 Markup and PixelCrayons a few times and have always been happy with their work.

XHTML Team provides clean coding that works in all kinds of browser. Their codes also work on iPhones and Blackberries, so you don’t have to worry about your page looking different when accessed on an iPhone or Blackberry. XHTML Team can also do complicated pages, and many web developers have commented on the company’s efficiency and fast turnaround time. You can get the codes in only 24 hours or in a couple of days.
