I couldn’t find much info about it or reviews, but I figured I’d give it a try. They give 70% and they pay every 15 days. They immediately approved me (and I think they immediately approve everyone- so this is a good option if your starting out) but then I also have to get in touch with them by email and explain where my traffic comes from before getting paid.

I’m not exactly sure what that’s about, but they seem eager for you to email them about questions, problems, advice, anything. Customer service is always nice, and I’m assuming they are small so can handle responding personally to their members. Another thing I like about them is there stats. Take a look at a piece of their stats program:

I’d say their stats are a step above Adsese. Plus their user interface is pretty, which is always nice. I’m going to add it to a site or 2 to experiment and then I’ll post a full review once I have enough data to give an intelligent opinion of PeakClick.

p.s. They give you lots of options to earn money. I’m not sure how much you can make off of them (for instance I’d question if the toolbar actually generates money). Not surprisingly, Technorati has used it’s influence to sign up some large blogs already including I Can Has Cheezburger, LifeHack and The Inquisitr.

2.)    Direct Advertising
One of the best ways (if not the best) to monetize your blog is to create your own on site advertising and to sell these spots yourself. Not only are you in control of what advertisements are on the site, but you are receiving full payment for each spot. The majority of blogs are implementing 125×125 ad spots on their pages for direct advertising.
- An excellent management system for selling ads on your blog is oio publisher. Many top bloggers are using this program to generate revenue monthly.

3.)    Paid Reviews
Once you have an established blog or brand, you may want to start offering services for exposure on your blog, such as a sponsored or paid review/post. The best way to offer paid reviews on your blog is to setup an advertising page for sponsored reviews, or you can also join “sponsored review” networks like ReviewMe and PayPerPost, which will feature your blog in their directory and send you new customers, in exchange for a commission percentage.

4.)    Contextual Advertising
Placing advertising on your site from Google Adsense is a form of contextual advertising, but it is also still also banner advertising and not displayed directly within your written content. There are many advertising networks out there like MediaText or Kontera, which will find targeted keywords in your blog content and link them to specific advertisers. You are then paid per click to these advertisements.

5.)    Self Managed Content Links
Just like using any advertising network, the less work you have to do, usually the smaller margin you will receive. Instead of using  a company like Kontera, you can purchase a word press plugin (such as wp affiliate pro, which I also use) and manage your own content advertising. The best way to do this would be through affiliate networks and selecting offers that best match your content and linking up related keywords in your blog content.

6.)    Referrals
Depending on your blog niche market, you can earn commissions on referring your readers to other networks or web site. A great example of this is for affiliate marketing. If you refer an affiliate to a network, you can receive a percentage from all commissions they generate for the life of their account. Another example would be to provide your visitors to a service they are billed monthly for, some programs will then pay you a commission every month as long as they remain a subscriber.

7.)    Widget Based Programs
If you currently run a blog that is focused on product reviews or about any type of item sold in stores or online, you may find that “widget based” programs perform best with your blog. Programs like Chitika, WidgetBucks, Shopzilla and TZZ Media will all display relevant advertising on your blog, matching up with your content. Most of these programs pay on a per click basis. As most of these programs are widget based, you will have actual text and picture ads displayed on your blog, rather than just text within your content.

8.)    Contests & Promotions
Though you may not get paid for running contests or promotions on your blog, if you run them correctly, you can be compensated with a prize or additional advertising. Additionally, running contests will also increase your readership, as everyone likes free stuff! (Example: If you are running a niche blog on digital cameras and Nikon or Canon were to offer you a free camera to review and one to give away to your readers, this would be a great form of compensation, while offering great information to your readers.)

9.)    Consulting
One of the best ways for you to get exposure for yourself or your brand name, is through having a well known blog. As your readership and branding grows, you may be able to offer “consulting” services if you become a prominent and very knowledgeable in your niche area. There are many very big name bloggers out there who make all of their money off public speaking or consulting, and have NO advertisements on their blogs.

10.)    Self Branding
As cliché as it may sound, the “self branding” and exposure you can receive from your blog may end up being the most power asset you can receive. Not only are you building up your brand name, and people are rushing to your blog with every new post you write, but you are also becoming an expert in your niche area and advertisers will flock to you. As you gain a bigger presence online, you will also start networking more and more, which will only continue to grow your blog and your bottom line.

The most important thing to remember when trying to make money through blogging, is that it is NOT fast and it is NOT easy. It’s actually one of the slowest ways to make money online, and as a blogger you will need to establish yourself and continue to write quality content. It’s the long term value and connections you will establish over time that can make your blogging experience priceless.

Starting today in the United Kingdom, when publishers serve WidgetBucks ad widgets on their sites, visitors based in the UK will now see a short-duration CPM display ad followed by a CPC shopping widget featuring UK-based merchants and products listed in British pounds sterling. The CPM-CPC hybrid gives publishers two revenue streams from the same ad widget instance. Before today, only CPM (cost-per-thousand impressions) ads were served to visitors outside the U.S. and Canada.

Ok, well, these iPhones don’t exactly make calls or snap photos – these are iPhone widget skins and they look very cool on your site or blog.

The units look like traditional text based ads but have a relevent image to the left of the ad text, giving your visitors graphical information as well as getting their attention (a bit like the old trick some publishers with manually did Adsense until Google forbade it).

The image to the right is how the unit would/could look on Self Made Minds, I had to use an image rather than the unit for reasons I’ll explain later.

Presently the unit will only show to your US traffic and even then it’s described as behavioural so will only show to “some” of your US visitors.

From our tests and observations it looks like one of the key factors to whether the ads are shown is based on the referrer, primarily is the visitor from a search engine, if so show the ad and base the ad content on the keywords used to find the page. This leads to highly targeted ads which should result in a higher than normal CTR and eCPM.

I’ve only been testing these for a couple of weeks but performance so far has been an improvement. I’d recommend at least giving them a test (especially if you have a none product based site that performed badly in the past) and make sure you specify a default ad (instructions here) to monetise the rest of your traffic.

The previous strictly bid-for-position model will be supplanted by a system ranking ads based on how much an advertiser wants to spend.

Estimates of the number of impressions, the number of clicks likely to occur and the total cost over 30 days are provided to help you plan.

CONS:

• Gradual transfer of accounts to new Panama setup could mean uncertain results for campaings through first half of 2007.
• Interface can be fairly confusing, control panel is not laid out very intuitively.
• Have to prepay for your ads in set amounts and set a recurring pre-payment.
• Ads have to be reviewed before they are shown. This can take several days. (Not like adwords which is almost instant)

Similar to other ad networks such as AdBrite and AdEngage, AdToll acts as the middleman between publishers and advertisers.

What makes these types of networks differ from the majority is that publishers can set their own prices, and advertisers can purchase ads on specific sites.

Features

With AdToll, publishers have the ability to set their own prices (or use their Autopricing feature which uses a special formula that takes a number of key factors and calculates an appropriate price). This is beneficial for sites with very targeted niches or specialty demographics, as advertisers are always willing to pay a premium for targeted traffic.

Publishers have complete control over the content and relevancy of the ads that appear on their sites. When first setting up their account, publishers are asked to provide an allowable ad rating and select the industries they wish to restrict (if any). There are currently three ad ratings: ‘Safe’, ‘Safe & Teen’, and ‘Adult’.

In addition to the ad ratings, publishers can deny an advertiser for any reason, but most do so within 24 hours.

One small and simple, yet useful feature is the ability for publishers to optionally remove the ‘Powered by’ and ‘Advertise Here’ text shown at the bottom of AdToll banners. Publishers can even customize the ‘Advertise Here’ anchor text (but not the URL). Both the ‘Powered by’ and ‘Advertise Here’ texts contain the publisher’s referral link.

AdToll provides all of its publishers with rate cards, which provide advertising information such as prices and traffic. This is a nice little feature that publishers can link to from their website to help encourage prospective advertisers.

Signing Up

One of the major perks with AdToll is that it is extremely fast and easy for a publisher to sign-up and get started. There are no site prerequisites such as minimum traffic, and all sign-ups are instantly approved, with no waiting period.

In fact, a publisher from start to finish can sign-up, add their site, throw up AdToll ads, and start earning income within 5-minutes.

While sites that are added in a publishers account do need to be approved, publishers are still credited for the traffic they receive during this time and are shown RON (Run of Network) ads. Note, however, that if not approved, they will not receive payment.

However, sites generally get accepted fairly easily and promptly.

Control Panel

AdToll’s control panel is very simple and user-friendly, but at the same time provides pretty much everything a publisher needs.

Publishers have the ability to rotate multiple ads in one slot, up to a maximum of 30.

One great aspect of AdToll’s control panel is that their statistics are all in real-time. Within seconds of adding an ad to their site, a publisher can start seeing their impressions immediately within their control panel. Many other networks claim to update in real-time but actually update hourly or every 10-15 minutes.

AdToll also combines their control system to handle both publisher and advertisers; users who use both can administer either through the same control panel.

Payment

AdToll likes to boast their 75% payout, which is indeed more than the majority of ad networks pay.

They send out payments on the 15th of every month for the previous month’s earnings, and provide the following methods of receiving payments: Cheque, PayPal, ePassporte, Bank Wire, or account credit.

Cheque and PayPal payments require a minimum of $20 in earnings, Wire Transfers require a minimum of $1,000 in earnings, ePassporte transfers a $20 minimum, and account credit payments have no minimum. There is a $12 fee on cheques, a $2 fee for ePassporte, and a $30 fee on Wire/Bank transfers.

Publishers who are also advertisers at AdToll have the option of using AdToll’s account credit, where funds can be held and used at a later date to book ads; they can choose to have their publisher payments paid directly to their account credit instead of PayPal, for example, and then use that credit when paying as an advertiser.

Miscellaneous

In the situation where publishers ads are not filled with sponsored ads, Run of Network (RON) ads will be displayed. Publishers can also create default ads for their banner slots and set weighting to them as well.

Referral Program

AdToll has a referral program, to which they have recently improved greatly as of November 14th, 2007.

Their new and improved referral program now allows referrers to refer both advertisers and publishers. Previously, they only paid for referred advertisers and not publishers. They added publishers partly due to our original review.

Their new payout structure gives:

• 20% commission on profit made from Advertisers for 90 days
• 10% commission on profit made from Publishers for 365 days

This is a fantastic improvement; previously they only paid out 5% to referred advertisers for the first 30 days of their membership.

If the ‘Powered by’ and ‘Advertise Here’ links are displayed within AdToll banners, publishers automatically earn commissions as an affiliate through these links.

They have banner creative available in various sizes, as well as basic text links.

AdToll’s affiliate system is far better than most ad networks, with details of each referral including their country, referring URL, and if they came an AdToll banner.

The affiliate earnings reporting displays the date, average payment, total sales, and total payment.

Customer Support

Currently, AdToll’s customer support is only available through their contact form. However, they have fast response times and are both friendly and helpful.

Summary

While AdToll is still brand new on the market, with their high 75% payout, AdToll only needs to prove that they can amass a decent advertiser base for their publishers.

One of their greatest strengths is the fast pace they’ve set for themselves on growing and improving their system by listening to their users. Within two months after the original posting of this review, AdToll has already added flash ads for advertisers, 300×250 video ads, and improved their affiliate program.

Also due to their high payout, AdToll should also be considered by anyone using a similar network such as AdBrite and AdEngage.
